St. Lucia Scotch Bonnet-(capsicum chinense)-The St. Lucia Scotch Bonnet pepper comes to us from the Caribbean Island nation of St. Lucia in the West Indies. It is an independent nation that is under the protection of the British Commonwealth. Scotch Bonnets on St. Lucia are used to flavor curries and a soup called Bouyon. Bouyon can be made with lamb, beef, or pork. They also make hot sauces there as well. The St. Lucia Scotch Bonnet is one of the larger Scotch Bonnet types. It ripens to a nice orange color. Before growing this chile I would say that the Scotch Bonnet Freeport Orange was the most productive Scotch type I have ever grown. The St. Lucia Scotch Bonnet not only produces larger peppers but also more peppers. Like other orange chile types it has a fruity citrus flavor and above average habanero heat level. The St. Lucia Scotch Bonnet chile plants grow over 4 feet tall and may require staking because of the heavy fruit set.
